The world is full of beautiful forms of life and I love drawing and painting living things, such as fish, birds, animals, and people. Each subject shows facets of fleeting beauty, so I try to capture it in art. Yes, I use photo references, especially when painting fish. I tie fly hooks and use them to entice fish onto the fly line and capture the scene under water. It allows me to keep the excitement of the moment alive.
I am always searching for other natural scenes around the river like beautiful birds and insects. That’s why fieldwork such as taking pictures, hiking, and fishing is so important for creating my art. I’m regularly fishing at the East Folk Lewis River in the state of Washington, which is the inspiration for the attached paintings. I hope you enjoy the beauty of my local nature!
