Rare fish to me!
March had a lower river level at this part of the East Fork Lewis River, comparing with other years. I didn’t go fishing a lot this month, but I caught this 11 inch fish, a River White Fish! Continue reading
Starting it from my empty mind
I could not write my fishing story since last October. Because I recently lost my young pup, BB. He was 4 years old, too young to die. I’ve got such an empty feeling since then. Continue reading
Salmon’s Spawning Time
Since last week, I’ve been seeing a lot of Chinook and Coho salmon. Even at this time the river condition is not good, as it’s really low water. Usually small fish are spooked or scared off because of big fish in the river system. I don’t usually do fishing but I tried. Of course I’m not going to catch salmon. Today I found it depends on the fishing spots. In some deeper spots, there’re only black body salmon but in the other shallower spots there’re several trout. Continue reading
Bait fishes are active.
I focused to check bait fishes in EFL today. Of course I was fishing but I paid a little attention to another fishes. I thought there are not so many craw fishes this year. But I could see 5 inch size of craw fish like this picture. Its color is brown orange now. I want to see nice red color one in fall season. I used to see a lot of red colored craw fishes at Wilson river in Oregon. Continue reading
Cutthroat is the beauty!
EFL river is the lowest time of the year now and water temperature is higher than 60 degree . It’s not easy to catch fishes in this condition. But fly fishing is quite a effective method to catch trouts. I started fishing around 10 o’clock morning today. I could not go earlier but I’m OK. I like harder condition for fishing sometimes. My challenging spirit is firing up! I stood in front of the river and look around. I didn’t see any hatch of bags in the middle of the day. I tied my streamer to my tippet. It’s 3X tippet. I thought it’s too heavy line in this low and clear water condition. But I had some sense, yes believed in catching a big fish!
EFL at the End of Summer
My home river, East Folk Lewis, is now at the lowest time of the year, so it’s hard to catch fish there. But I can enjoy fishing with Tenkara gear (Japanese fly fishing), as it’s the best time to use it!! Even 8-inch trout gives a good fight with Tenkara light gear. Continue reading
