I focused to check bait fishes in EFL today. Of course I was fishing but I paid a little attention to another fishes. I thought there are not so many craw fishes this year. But I could see 5 inch size of craw fish like this picture. Its color is brown orange now. I want to see nice red color one in fall season. I used to see a lot of red colored craw fishes at Wilson river in Oregon. Also I could see many minnows and sculpins. Whenever I see them, I try to take a picture of them. It’s not easy to take these active fishes. But if I can take it, it will be a good reference for my fly tying. Nowadays I’m tying minnow for streamer pattern a lot. In this river, small size of minnow streamer is really effective to catch trouts, especially in the condition of low and clear water. I should start to make a fly pattern page in this site. Anyway it’s very important for fly fisherman to observe the nature. This sculpin is bigger than 4 inch. I don’t use 4 inch length of fly hook for catching a trout. But Shape and color is really good reference for tying a hook.
Tenkara fishing is really good to catch trouts today. In some point I have to explain Japanese fly fishing style. This young trouts bit quickly my Sakasa (reversed leg style) Tenkara hook. Also I could catch 10 inch trouts too. Whenever I judge that Steelhead is not in the river, I switch my fly rod to Tenkara fly rod. Especially Tenkara hook can show good action to fish, they react and bite soon. When I give up and down rod action a little bit, this Sakasa hook looks like dancing in the water. It’s really fun fishing method. After hook fish, Tenkara rod doesn’t have a reel. I can enjoy fighting and my controlling skill will get improved. Even 6 inch trouts, I feel fighting with a Big fish! If we don’t have much rain, I will try Tenkara again.
